Making its 4K Debut!
Hot off penning the screenplays for Martin Scorsese’s masterpieces Taxi Driver and Raging Bull, Paul Schrader took the director’s chair for the third time with 1980’s American Gigolo—a gripping neo-noir crime drama set against the backdrop of late-70s Los Angeles. Featuring a breakout performance by Richard Gere, the film remains a landmark of style, music, and intrigue.
Synopsis:
In a world of wealth, desire, and deception, high-end male escort Julian Kay (Richard Gere) caters to affluent women in need. But when the wife of a powerful financier is found murdered, Julian becomes the prime suspect. As he fights to prove his innocence, Julian unravels a dark conspiracy—forcing him to confront his own identity and place in a society built on lust and corruption.
Celebrated for its sleek cinematography by John Bailey, iconic fashion designs by Giorgio Armani, and a pulsating soundtrack by Giorgio Moroder (including Blondie’s Grammy-nominated anthem Call Me), American Gigolo cemented itself as an era-defining classic.
Co-Starring:
Lauren Hutton, Héctor Elizondo, Bill Duke, Nina van Pallandt, and Brian Davies.
